The Horn of Good Cheer is a functional drinking horn decorated with intertwined mythical creatures in the style of the Jelling Stone raised in 965 CE by Harald Bluetooth, King of Denmark. At the rim are engraved and painted three runes reading “ALU”, a traditional Scandinavian toast over ale, mead, or wine. The sigil engraved on the horn to face its holder is a “Lukkuhringurinn”, or “Ring of good fortune” that is meant to bring fortune and popularity to the one holding it and raising it in a toast. This symbol comes from a manuscript copied out in 1820 from an older Icelandic original. Folk magic traditions persevered in Iceland long after they were driven underground in other parts of Europe, and the source for this symbol likely dates back to the 17th or 18th century. The horn has been double-sealed with natural beeswax inside, and is suitable for use with cold or room-temperature beverages. When washing, use lukewarm water and mild dishwashing liquid on the inside and let stand to dry. The outside may be cleaned with gentle rubbing using water, but scrubbing may cause some of the colour of the lines to come off. This will not affect the use of the hornif it occurs.
